About Aden Adde International Airport
Aden Adde International Airport is Somalia's main international airport, serving the capital Mogadishu and the wider Banaadir region. Originally established in 1928 during Italian colonial rule, the airport was renamed after Aden Abdullah Osman Daar, Somalia's first president.
A modern terminal built by Turkish operator Favori opened in January 2015 and now handles domestic and international flights through separate departures and arrivals sections. Located southwest of central Mogadishu, roughly 6 km from the city centre, the airport serves leisure, business and humanitarian travel.
The airport is connected to Mogadishu by taxis, private transfers and road links, with onward travel available to the city centre and other parts of Somalia. Public transport is limited and security checks are common around the airport perimeter.
