About Franco Bianco Airport
Franco Bianco Airport is a small public aerodrome serving Cerro Sombrero, the administrative centre of the Primavera commune in the Magallanes Region of Chile. Located in the northern part of Tierra del Fuego, it supports regional connectivity, aeromedical evacuations, general aviation and flights linked to the area's petroleum industry.
The aerodrome reopened in June 2023 after improvement works financed by Chile's Ministry of Public Works. The project included asphalting and widening the main 07/25 runway, upgrading taxiways, the aircraft parking apron and safety strip, and renovating the passenger building with offices, restrooms, a weather office, a boarding room and a departure hall.
Situated about 5 km northwest of Cerro Sombrero, the airport is a short drive from the town centre. Onward travel options include private transfers and rental cars, while the regional capital Punta Arenas lies over 200 km away by road and ferry across the Strait of Magellan and Porvenir is reached along the island's southern roads.
