About Naval Air Station Fallon
Naval Air Station Fallon is a U.S. Navy installation and military airfield serving the Fallon area in western Nevada. The site was established in 1942, with the Navy taking control in 1943, and it later became a key centre for naval aviation training.
Located about 3 miles from central Fallon and roughly 60 miles east of Reno, the station supports carrier air wing training, the Fallon Range Training Complex and the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center. Its Van Voorhis Field has multiple runways, including a 14,000-foot runway that is among the longest used by the U.S. Navy.
The installation is reached by road from Fallon and links to U.S. Route 50 and U.S. Route 95. There are no scheduled commercial flights at the airfield, so most civilian travellers connect through Reno-Tahoe International Airport or use ground transportation to Fallon, Carson City and the Lake Tahoe region.
Because the base is an active military facility, access is restricted and must be arranged in advance. For civilian visitors and contractors, planning onward travel by private transfer, chauffeur, rental car or group vehicle from Fallon is generally the most practical option.
