About Enrique Malek International Airport
Enrique Malek International Airport is the main air gateway to David and the Chiriquí Province in western Panama. It connects the city with domestic services to Panama City and regional international flights, serving both residents and travelers heading to the province's highlands and Pacific coast.
The airport traces its origins to a landing strip created in 1942 and was later named in honour of Panamanian aviation pioneer Enrique Malek. Between 2008 and 2010 the runway was extended from 2,100 to 2,600 metres and a new passenger terminal was built, allowing the airport to handle larger aircraft and more international traffic.
The airport lies a few kilometres south of central David, close to the Pan-American Highway. Taxis, private transfers, car rental and road connections make it relatively easy to continue to David, Boquete, Volcán and other destinations across Chiriquí.
With a single passenger terminal and basic services including cafés, car rental and waiting areas, the airport offers a compact and straightforward passenger experience as the region's principal air hub.
