About Dwyer Airport
Dwyer Airport is a former military airfield in southern Afghanistan's Helmand Province, located roughly 63 km southwest of the city of Lashkargah. It originated as a forward operating base and was expanded into a major U.S. Marine Corps installation known as Camp Dwyer before its permanent closure.
The airfield served military aviation operations, including transport, supply and medical evacuation flights, and supported one of the largest Marine camps in southern Helmand. Its single concrete runway is about 8,000 ft long, suitable for larger military transport aircraft.
Dwyer Airport is not a civilian commercial hub and has no scheduled passenger terminal. Access is by road, and travel to and from the site depends on the prevailing security situation in the region.
Named in memory of Lance Bombardier James Dwyer, the site remains part of the military aviation history of southern Afghanistan and is best understood as a former operational airfield rather than a public travel gateway.
