About Dr. Hermenegildo Ortiz Quiñones Airport
Dr. Hermenegildo Ortiz Quiñones Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Humacao and Puerto Rico's eastern region. Opened in 1963, it was developed as an air support platform for the area and today mainly handles private, charter and recreational flights.
The airport was renamed in 2015 in honor of Dr. Hermenegildo Ortiz Quiñones, a Humacao-born planner and public official. It operates a single asphalt runway designated 10/28, measuring about 2,457 feet, and is owned by the Puerto Rico Ports Authority.
Located about one mile southeast of central Humacao off PR-923 in the Buena Vista district, the airport has a small passenger terminal that opened in 1991. A rehabilitation project announced in 2025 includes a new passenger terminal, additional hangars and upgraded parking and pedestrian areas.
Road access connects the airport to Humacao and nearby destinations, with taxis, private transfers and rental cars providing onward travel to the city centre, Palmas del Mar and the eastern coast.
