About Dhanbad Airport
Dhanbad Airport is a public domestic airport serving Dhanbad, a major coal-mining and industrial city in Jharkhand. Located alongside the Grand Trunk Road in the Barwaada area, it lies about 5 km from the city centre.
The airport has a single compact passenger terminal and a single asphalt runway used for general aviation, private and charter operations. Scheduled commercial services last operated in the 1980s, when Vayudoot linked Dhanbad with Patna, Kolkata and Ranchi until 1987.
Ground connections include taxis, private transfers, car rentals and road links to central Dhanbad, while Dhanbad Junction railway station provides onward rail travel across the region.
On-site facilities remain limited, so travellers often rely on services in central Dhanbad. The airport continues to be considered for regional connectivity development, making it a practical gateway for private and chartered travel in eastern Jharkhand.
