About De Kooy Airfield

De Kooy Airfield is a dual-use airport located about 6 km south of Den Helder, where the civilian Den Helder Airport and the military Maritiem Vliegkamp De Kooy share the runway, air traffic control, fire brigade and weather services. It is best known as the Netherlands Offshore Aviation Mainport and the country's main helicopter gateway to North Sea oil, gas and wind installations.

The civilian terminal dates back to the early offshore era: helicopter flights began in the late 1960s, a dedicated terminal opened in 1981, and the current terminal has been in use since 2003. The airport has an ILS-equipped runway, helicopter spots, hangars, passenger and baggage control systems and handling facilities.

Because of its position close to the southern and central North Sea fields, De Kooy plays a key role in moving offshore personnel and cargo. It is connected to Den Helder by bus, taxi, private transfer and road, with onward rail links from Den Helder station to the rest of the Netherlands.

Passengers can use the terminal's restaurant, free Wi-Fi, parking, lockers and accessibility facilities, making the airport a practical point of departure for offshore flights and general aviation in North Holland.
