About Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport

Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport is the main domestic airport serving Tacloban City, the capital of Leyte province, and the wider Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. It connects the area with key domestic destinations such as Manila and Cebu and is classified as a Class 1 principal domestic airport.

The airport site has a long history as an airfield, having been developed during the Second World War and later known as Tacloban National Airport before being renamed in honor of Daniel Z. Romualdez, a former Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives. The terminal was badly damaged by Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 and was subsequently rebuilt and expanded, with the enlarged terminal opening in 2018.

The airport is located in the San Jose district of Tacloban City, on the far side of Cancabato Bay from the city center. The road route around the bay is roughly 10 km, so the journey to downtown Tacloban usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes by jeepney, taxi or private transfer.

The compact terminal provides essential passenger facilities, including food and drink outlets, shops, ATMs and parking. A larger terminal and a new control tower are under construction to increase capacity and support future international flights, reflecting the airport's growing role as a regional gateway.
