About Coposa Airport

Coposa Airport is a high-altitude private aerodrome in the Tarapacá Region of northern Chile, located beside the Salar de Coposa within the commune of Pica. It primarily serves the Doña Inés de Collahuasi copper mine, one of the world's largest copper operations.

Set at about 3,800 m (12,468 ft) above sea level, it is among the highest airfields in Chile. Its main asphalt runway (17/35) is 3,200 m long, and operations are generally limited to daylight hours. The high altitude and strong Andean winds make approach and landing demanding.

The airport lies about 73 km east-southeast of the town of Pica and roughly 13 km west of the Bolivia border, around 163 km from Iquique, the regional capital. Road access connects the site with Pica and Iquique, with most travel organized by mining operators or pre-arranged ground transport.

As a private, industrial aerodrome, Coposa is focused on crew changes and operational flights rather than scheduled public passenger service. Travelers heading to or from the Collahuasi area should plan transfers in advance, since public transport options at the site are limited.
