About Coles County Memorial Airport
Coles County Memorial Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Mattoon, Charleston and the wider Coles County area in east-central Illinois. Located between the two cities, it sits about five miles east of Mattoon and six miles west of Charleston, making it a convenient gateway for private, charter and business aviation.
The airport opened in 1951 and welcomed scheduled airline service from Ozark Air Lines beginning around 1955; scheduled passenger operations later ended and the facility now focuses on general aviation. Its main runway was originally built in 1974 and was completely repaved in 2015.
The airfield includes two asphalt runways, Runway 11/29 at 6,501 feet and Runway 6/24 at 5,799 feet, as well as a turf runway. The on-airport FBO provides aviation fuel, aircraft parking, hangar space, a passenger terminal and lounge, a pilots lounge, conference facilities, showers and an on-airport restaurant.
