About Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport

Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport is the main commercial airport serving Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) and the Nelson Mandela Bay area in South Africa's Eastern Cape. Originally established in 1929, the airport gained its current terminal buildings when new facilities opened in 1955 and was renamed from Port Elizabeth International Airport in February 2021.

Located only a few kilometres from the city centre, the airport is often called the 'ten-minute airport' because of its short transfer times to most major areas of the city. It handles a mainly domestic network with frequent connections to Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, supporting business, government and tourism travel across the region.

The airport operates from a single terminal building that combines check-in, security, arrivals, retail and dining in one compact space. Passenger facilities include restaurants, cafés, shops, lounges, Wi-Fi, ATMs and car rental desks.

Ground transport from the airport is available by metered taxi, ride-hailing services such as Uber and Bolt, private transfers and rental cars, while there is no direct scheduled public bus service to the terminal. Its central location makes onward travel to Gqeberha, the Garden Route, Jeffreys Bay and the wider Eastern Cape relatively straightforward.
