About Chicago Executive Airport
Chicago Executive Airport (PWK) is a dedicated general aviation and business aviation airport serving the northern suburbs of Chicago. Located in Wheeling, Illinois, roughly 18 to 20 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, it provides an efficient alternative for private, corporate and charter flights, with no scheduled commercial airline service.
Its history reaches back to the mid-1920s, when the field began as Gauthier's Flying Field. It later became Pal-Waukee, then Palwaukee Municipal Airport, before taking the name Chicago Executive Airport in 2006.
The airport is co-owned by the Village of Wheeling and the City of Prospect Heights and operates three asphalt runways, with Runway 16/34 the longest at about 5,001 feet. Passenger and crew facilities are concentrated in on-airport FBOs such as Signature Flight Support and Atlantic Aviation, which offer lounges, ground handling, fuel, hangar space and catering support.
Road access is convenient via Interstates 294 and 94 and U.S. Route 41, putting the Loop, North Shore communities and the O'Hare area within easy reach by car, taxi, chauffeur or private transfer.
