About Central Illinois Regional Airport
Central Illinois Regional Airport (CIRA) is the primary commercial airport serving Bloomington-Normal and the surrounding Central Illinois region. It began as a private airfield in the late 1920s and was dedicated as a modern airport in 1934, with early development supported by New Deal programs during the Great Depression.
Located about three miles east of downtown Bloomington, the airport is operated by the Central Illinois Regional Airport Authority, which was established in 1964. It is served by Allegiant, American and Delta, offering nonstop flights to hubs such as Atlanta, Chicago O'Hare and Dallas-Fort Worth, along with seasonal leisure routes including Orlando/Sanford and Phoenix-Mesa.
The single main terminal building houses airline ticket counters, a TSA security checkpoint, baggage claim, dining and shopping, free Wi-Fi and other passenger amenities. Its compact layout supports a straightforward experience from arrival at the terminal to the departure gate.
The airport is easy to reach by road, with free on-site parking, a complimentary parking shuttle, taxis, ride-hailing and several rental car agencies in the terminal. These connections make it a convenient gateway for travelers throughout Bloomington-Normal and Central Illinois.
