About Cairo Regional Airport

Cairo Regional Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Cairo, Illinois, and the surrounding Southern Illinois region. The airport was activated in September 1950 and is owned by the Alexander County Airport Authority. It sits on about 470 acres roughly 4 miles northwest of downtown Cairo, close to the point where the Mississippi and Ohio rivers meet.

The airport primarily supports private, business, and charter aviation rather than scheduled airline service. It has two asphalt runways: runway 14/32, which is 4,001 by 100 feet and supports non-precision instrument approaches, and runway 2/20, which is 3,200 by 60 feet. A single small terminal and administration building handles general aviation operations, flight planning, and passenger meet-and-greet needs.

Its location near the Illinois, Missouri, and Kentucky borders makes it convenient for pilots and charter travelers heading to Cairo, Cape Girardeau, Paducah, Sikeston, and other communities across the tri-state area. The airport is reached by local roads from downtown Cairo and connects with the wider region's highway network.

Facilities include 24-hour self-serve 100LL aviation fuel, hangars and tiedown parking, a pilot lounge, free Wi-Fi, and vehicle parking. With no commercial terminal crowds, the airport offers a straightforward, low-traffic arrival and departure experience for general aviation travelers visiting the area.
