Bubaque Airport (BQE)

Bubaque Airport is the only airfield serving the Bijagós Archipelago and the main aerial gateway to Bubaque Island in Guinea-Bissau. It connects the island town of Bubaque and the surrounding islands with the capital, Bissau, through short domestic flights.

The airport is located about 70 km south of Bissau at an elevation of around 22 metres. It operates from a single compact terminal and an unpaved runway of approximately 1.2 km, suited to small regional aircraft and charter flights rather than larger commercial jets.

From the airport, Bubaque town is about 3 km away and can be reached by local taxi. The main connection to the mainland is by sea: scheduled ferries link Bubaque with Bissau in roughly four hours, while speedboats serve resorts and other islands, and connecting flights operate through Osvaldo Vieira International Airport.

Passenger facilities are intentionally basic, with a small waiting area, restrooms and limited local supplies. Because there are no banking or ATM services in the archipelago, travelers should carry cash in West African CFA francs and reconfirm flight and boat schedules locally.
