About Bitam Airport
Bitam Airport is a small civil aerodrome near the town of Bitam in Woleu-Ntem Province, northern Gabon. It lies close to the borders with Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea and roughly 290 km northeast of Libreville.
The aerodrome has a single laterite runway designated 13/31 and a small terminal building. In February 2016 it was officially closed to public air traffic after being found no longer compliant with operating standards, and it was removed from Gabon's list of operational aerodromes.
Located about 1 km southwest of the town centre, the site is reached by road. Bitam is approximately 50 km north of the provincial capital Oyem, and the road network links the town to Libreville and to border crossings with Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.
Because the airfield is not currently used for scheduled public flights, travellers in the region depend on road transport. Private transfers, car rental, chauffeur services and group transport can be arranged from Bitam, Oyem and nearby border areas.
