About Begumpet Airport
Begumpet Airport is a historic aviation site in Hyderabad and one of India's early airports. Its first terminal dates to 1937, and for decades it served as the city's principal airport before scheduled commercial operations moved to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in 2008.
Located in the Begumpet area, about 5–8 km from central Hyderabad, the airport now functions mainly as a general aviation airfield. It is shared with the Indian Air Force and supports private and charter flights, flight training academies, and aviation events such as the Wings India airshow.
Because Begumpet no longer operates scheduled commercial passenger flights, regular public access is limited. Travelers using private or charter services typically reach the city centre by taxi, ride-sharing app, auto-rickshaw or pre-arranged transfer, with the Ameerpet metro station nearby for onward connections.
Although passenger facilities are more limited than at Hyderabad's main commercial airport, the surrounding Begumpet area offers hotels, restaurants and shopping, making the airport a convenient point for private aviation users and aviation enthusiasts visiting the city.
