Baidoa Airport is the main airport serving Baidoa, the capital of Somalia's Bay region and the largest city in South West State. Also known as Shatigadud International Airport, it is an important air gateway for the city and surrounding region, especially given the limited and often difficult road connection to Mogadishu.
The airport has served Baidoa for decades, with its runway resurfaced and lengthened in 1974. Following years of limited maintenance during Somalia's civil conflict, a United Nations-supported rehabilitation completed in 2022 restored the runway and taxiways, and work on a new passenger terminal began in late 2024.
Located about 2 km southwest of Baidoa city centre, the airport is reached by a short road journey. Taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and rental cars provide onward connections into the city and the wider Bay region.
The airport currently operates from a modest single terminal used mainly for domestic flights, including regular connections to Mogadishu, as well as United Nations and humanitarian flights. Facilities remain basic, with most dining, shopping and other services found in Baidoa town.
