Alfonso López Pumarejo Airport is the main air terminal serving Valledupar, the capital of the Cesar department in northern Colombia. The airport was established in the 1950s to connect the city with the rest of the country, and it also functions as a small base for the Colombian Air Force and National Police.
Located just south of the city centre, the airport primarily handles domestic flights and regularly connects Valledupar with Bogotá, Barranquilla and Medellín. A modernization and expansion project was carried out in 2013, and the facility has been operated under concession since 2014.
The airport has a single passenger terminal with check-in counters, boarding areas, a food court, shops, a VIP lounge, Wi-Fi and parking. Taxis are available in front of the terminal, providing convenient access to hotels and destinations in Valledupar, while no regular public bus service currently serves the airport.
During the annual Vallenato Legend Festival, the airport enables special international operations and increases staffing and services to welcome visitors arriving for one of Colombia's most important music and cultural events.
