About Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport

Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport is the main airport serving Cusco and the surrounding region, and it is the closest airport to the UNESCO-listed site of Machu Picchu. Opened in December 1964, the airport has become a key gateway for travellers visiting the historic centre, the Sacred Valley and other Andean destinations.

Located roughly 4 km east of Cusco's Plaza de Armas, the airport operates a single passenger terminal with domestic and international services. Main carriers include LATAM, Avianca, Sky Airline and JetSmart, with frequent connections to Lima and other Peruvian cities as well as some international routes.

The terminal has two levels, with check-in and international departures on the ground floor and domestic departures above. Travellers can reach the city centre by taxi, private transfer, rental car or local transport, with typical road journeys of about 10–20 minutes depending on traffic.

Passenger facilities include a VIP lounge, restaurants, cafés, shops, currency exchange, ATMs, charging points and information desks, making it a practical starting point for exploring Cusco and the Sacred Valley.
