Alberto Lleras Camargo Airport (SOX)

Alberto Lleras Camargo Airport is the regional airport serving Sogamoso and the Valle de Sugamuxi in the Boyacá Department. Opened in the mid-1940s, it has long functioned as the main air gateway for this part of Colombia's eastern highlands.

Located about 6 km southwest of central Sogamoso in the municipality of Firavitoba, the airport sits at a high elevation of roughly 2,486 metres. Its single asphalt runway measures about 1,877 metres and can receive regional aircraft on short-haul domestic routes, which have historically included connections toward Yopal and Bucaramanga.

The passenger terminal is compact, with a waiting area, cafeteria and airline counters, and it has been part of successive modernization efforts. In 2025 the airport was handed to the Colombian Army under a five-year agreement to restore the control tower and infrastructure while keeping civil aviation operations possible.

Road access to Sogamoso is short by taxi, private transfer or rental car, and the airport is also within reach of towns such as Firavitoba, Iza, Aquitania, Paipa and Duitama. This makes it a practical entry point for travelers heading to Lake Tota and the wider Sugamuxi region.
