Ahmad Shah Baba International Airport is the main airport serving Kandahar and southern Afghanistan, handling domestic flights and limited international connections. Located about 16 km southeast of Kandahar city centre, it functions as the principal gateway for travellers heading to the city and the surrounding region.
Originally developed in the early 1960s with American assistance, the airport has a long history of combined civilian and military use. Its passenger terminal began operating commercial flights in 2005, and the airport was officially renamed Ahmad Shah Baba International Airport in 2019 in honour of Ahmad Shah Durrani.
The airport has a single runway and one passenger terminal serving domestic and international services. Kam Air and Ariana Afghan Airlines operate the main scheduled routes, including connections to Kabul, with limited international flights to Gulf destinations.
