About Abha International Airport
Abha International Airport is the main airport serving Abha, the capital of Saudi Arabia's Asir Province, and the wider highland region. Opened in 1977, it has become the region's key gateway for domestic travel and a growing number of international services.
The airport is located around 18 km northeast of central Abha and also serves the nearby city of Khamis Mushait. Its single passenger terminal handles domestic flights alongside select international routes, with Saudia, flyadeal and flynas among the main carriers operating there.
Because no public bus serves the terminal, most travellers continue their journey by taxi, ride-hailing app, pre-booked private transfer or rental car. The drive to central Abha normally takes around 20 to 25 minutes.
Passenger facilities include cafés, restaurants, shops, the Hayyak Lounge, Wi-Fi, prayer rooms and car rental desks. An expansion programme is under way to increase the airport's capacity, with plans for a significantly larger terminal.
