About Đồng Nai
Biên Hòa is the capital of Đồng Nai Province and one of the largest industrial and commercial centres in Vietnam's southeast, sitting on the Đồng Nai River about 30 km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City. Its riverside setting, busy markets and manufacturing base give it a practical, working-city character while keeping it well connected to the wider Saigon region.
The city's history reaches back to 1698, when Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh established the Trấn Biên garrison, making the area one of the oldest administrative centres of southern Vietnam. Heritage sites such as the Trấn Biên Temple of Literature, the Biên Hòa Citadel and Tân Lân Temple reflect this long settlement history alongside later French colonial and modern architecture.
Around the city, landmarks include the Bửu Long Cultural Park, a hill and lake landscape with pagodas and caves, and the Đồng Nai River waterfront. Wards such as Trung Dũng and Quyết Thắng hold the commercial core, while industrial zones including Biên Hòa 1, Amata and Long Bình anchor the local economy.
Biên Hòa's food culture draws on Đồng Nai's produce, notably Tân Triều pomelo and local fish sauce, and ranges from street stalls and riverside restaurants to cafés and regional specialities. For travellers, it serves as both a business destination within Vietnam's southern industrial belt and a base for exploring Đồng Nai and nearby Ho Chi Minh City.
