About Saint Louis
Saint Louis is a small, centrally located district of Victoria, the capital of Seychelles, on the island of Mahé. Despite being the smallest administrative district in the country at around one square kilometre, it sits at the heart of the capital's historic and commercial core and gives visitors an easy introduction to everyday Seychellois life.
The district's best-known landmark is the Victoria Clock Tower, a cast-iron clock installed in 1903 and modelled on London's Little Ben. A short walk away stands the brightly decorated Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple, one of the most photographed Hindu temples in the Indian Ocean, while the lively Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market nearby is the main spot for fresh fish, fruit, spices and local crafts.
Saint Louis also has a strong food tradition. The Marie Antoinette restaurant on Serret Road occupies a timber colonial mansion that has been a national monument since 2011 and has served a set Creole menu since 1972, making it a favourite stop for visitors wanting an authentic local meal.
Because Saint Louis is part of central Victoria, it is compact and easy to explore on foot, with government buildings, shops, banks and small cafés close together. It is also a practical base for wider island exploration: the Botanical Gardens, Morne Seychellois National Park and the beaches of Beau Vallon are all within a short drive.
For travellers, Saint Louis offers a convenient mix of history, culture and Creole hospitality, whether visiting for a day of sightseeing or using central Victoria as a base for business and onward travel to other islands.

Saint Louis Travel Guide
Best Time to Visit
The most comfortable conditions usually fall in April, May, October and November, when temperatures are warm, rain is lighter and seas are calmer for boat trips and beach days. December to March is hotter and wetter, while the southeast trade winds strengthen from June to September.
How to Get Around
Saint Louis and central Victoria are compact and easy to explore on foot. For longer journeys, SPTC public buses connect Victoria with beaches and districts across Mahé, while taxis and rental cars offer more flexibility.
Where to Stay
Saint Louis itself has limited accommodation, so most visitors stay in nearby central Victoria or along the coast at Beau Vallon, about ten minutes away by car. Eden Island and the east-coast districts also offer hotels, guesthouses and self-catering options within easy reach.
Food & Drink
Creole cooking is the highlight, with grilled fish, octopus curry, coconut-based dishes and fresh tropical fruit. The Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market is great for street food and local produce, while the historic Marie Antoinette restaurant serves a set Creole menu in a restored colonial house.
