About Roche Caiman
Roche Caiman is a small administrative district on the east coast of Mahé, Seychelles, just south of the capital Victoria. Built largely on reclaimed land created in the 1980s, it is known mainly as the country's sporting hub rather than a traditional tourist quarter, while its waterfront position keeps it close to Victoria, Eden Island and the international airport.
The district takes its name from a large granite outcrop once found in the area, and local history says the surrounding mangroves were home to caimans. Today, Roche Caiman mixes residential streets, a power station and compact commercial areas with sports facilities that anchor national events.
Roche Caiman is best known for the Roche Caiman Sports Complex, which includes Stade Linité, Seychelles' main football stadium and a regular home venue for the national team. The newer Paradise Beach Soccer Arena hosted the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in 2025, reinforcing the district's place in the islands' sporting calendar.
Its location near Victoria gives visitors easy access to the capital's clocktower, Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market, Victoria Botanical Gardens and harbour connections around Mahé. The nearby Ste. Anne Marine National Park and Eden Island marina also provide quick access to boat trips, beaches and waterfront dining.
While Roche Caiman itself is quieter than resort areas such as Beau Vallon, its practical position near Victoria, the airport and main roads makes it useful for both leisure travellers and business visitors attending events, conferences or government meetings on Mahé.
