About Grand'Anse Praslin

Grand'Anse Praslin is an administrative district and coastal village on the southwestern side of Praslin, Seychelles' second-largest island. The district takes its name from the long, quiet Grand Anse beach and also administers the nearby nature reserves of Cousin, Cousine, Aride and Booby islands.

Praslin itself was named after the French Duc de Praslin, and Grand'Anse remains a relaxed, small-scale settlement with a working fishing and village character. A monument in the village commemorates Seychelles' independence in 1976, and the area's Creole heritage is visible in its everyday life, local shops and island cuisine.

Nature dominates the experience here. Fond Ferdinand Nature Reserve sits just inland from the village and protects a large natural population of coco de mer palms, while the UNESCO-listed Vallée de Mai lies a short drive to the north. Beyond the village, Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette are among Praslin's best-known beaches, and the broad Grand Anse shore is ideal for long walks.

The district is made up of sub-districts including Mont Plaisir, Anse Kerlan, Roche Corbizeau, Amitie, Grand Anse Central, Nouvelle Découverte, La Pointe and Anse Consolation. Accommodation is mostly beachfront guesthouses, small hotels and self-catering villas, giving the area a low-rise, unhurried feel.

Praslin Island Airport is located at Grand Anse, making the district a convenient gateway for island flights. Visitors use it as a base for exploring Vallée de Mai, island-hopping to La Digue, Curieuse and Cousin, and reaching Praslin's beaches, while its calm pace also suits small retreats and nature-focused trips.
