About Aurora

Aurora is a coastal province on the eastern side of Luzon, facing the Pacific Ocean and backed by the forested Sierra Madre range. Its capital, Baler, anchors the destination with reliable surf breaks, waterfalls and a relaxed small-town rhythm that draws visitors year after year.

The province has deep historical roots. Named after Aurora Quezon, it was once part of Quezon province before becoming a separate province in 1979. Baler is known for the Siege of Baler in 1898 and 1899, the birthplace of President Manuel L. Quezon, and landmarks such as Baler Church, Museo de Baler, Quezon Park and the hilltop views of Ermita Hill.

Beyond the capital, Aurora unfolds across eight municipalities with distinct experiences. Maria Aurora holds the 600-year-old Millennium Tree, while San Luis is home to Ditumabo Mother Falls. Dingalan combines rugged coastal cliffs with mountain trails, and Casiguran, Dilasag, Dinalungan, Dipaculao and San Luis offer quieter beaches, coves and fishing villages along the Pacific.

Sabang Beach is the heart of the surf scene, with beginner-friendly waves, surf schools and a line of cafés and restaurants serving fresh seafood and local dishes such as pako or fern salad. Events like Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day and Aurora Day connect the province's heritage with its present-day culture.

Aurora remains a mainly leisure destination, but its growing eco-tourism, agriculture and small-business economy also bring business travellers, researchers and event groups. The mix of surfing, nature, history and unhurried coastal life makes it one of Luzon's most distinctive Pacific escapes.
