About Tivat
Tivat is a small coastal town in southwestern Montenegro, set along the inner shore of the Bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska). Once a modest maritime settlement, it is now best known for Porto Montenegro, one of the Adriatic's leading superyacht marinas, and for a relaxed seafront that mixes old stone lanes with modern waterfront life.
The town's naval past remains visible across Tivat. The site of Porto Montenegro was formerly the Austro-Hungarian and Yugoslav Arsenal shipyard, and the Naval Heritage Collection now preserves maritime artefacts in a restored 19th-century sawmill. Along the waterfront, the historic Clock Tower and St. Roko Church stand close to the palm-lined Pine promenade.
Tivat's attractions stretch beyond the marina. Donja Lastva keeps old stone houses and small churches, the Solila Nature Reserve protects salt flats and birdlife on the edge of the bay, and the small Flower Island (Ostrvo Cvijeća) holds medieval monastery ruins. Trails on Mount Vrmac look down over the Bay of Kotor toward Kotor and Perast.
As a business and leisure hub, Tivat is closely tied to yachting, tourism and events, with Porto Montenegro adding hotels, restaurants, shops and a superyacht village to the town's economy. Tivat Airport (TIV), just a few kilometres from the centre, is Montenegro's main coastal gateway and puts Kotor, Budva and Herceg Novi within easy reach.
For travelers, Tivat combines a compact, walkable centre with easy access to the UNESCO-listed Bay of Kotor and the wider Montenegrin coast, making it a practical base for both short seaside breaks and longer business or sailing trips.
