About Zeta
Zeta is a municipality in central Montenegro, located in the fertile Zeta Plain southeast of the capital Podgorica. Its main settlement and administrative centre is Golubovci, a small town surrounded by villages, farmland, rivers and low hills. The area combines a long historical identity as the medieval region of Zeta with a quiet, agricultural present-day character.
The Zeta Plain has supported settlement and farming for centuries and is known for its productive soil, vegetable growing, vineyards and orchards. The rivers Morača and Cijevna run through the area, while Lake Skadar forms part of the municipality's southern edge, offering access to one of the largest lakes in the Balkans.
Golubovci is the practical hub of the municipality, with local services, a market atmosphere and easy road connections to Podgorica about 15 km away. Podgorica Airport, sometimes still called Golubovci Airport, lies within the municipality a few kilometres from the town, making Zeta a convenient gateway for air travellers.
Nearby experiences include Lake Skadar National Park with its birdlife, wetlands, monasteries and boat trips, as well as riverside spots along the Morača and Cijevna for swimming in summer. The surrounding countryside is suited to slow travel, cycling, wine tasting and visits to family-run farms and small vineyards.
For travellers, Zeta offers a relaxed base close to Podgorica's business, transport and cultural facilities while keeping the appeal of rural Montenegro. Its position near the airport, main roads and Lake Skadar makes it relevant for both short stays and business visits.

Zeta Travel Guide
Best Time to Visit
Spring and early autumn are the most comfortable seasons for exploring the Zeta Plain, with mild weather for cycling, walking and outdoor visits. Summers are hot and dry, ideal for riverside and lake activities, while winter is generally mild and quieter.
How to Get Around
Zeta is compact and best explored by car or private transfer, with local roads linking Golubovci, surrounding villages, Podgorica and Lake Skadar. Buses and taxis connect Golubovci with Podgorica, but a rental car gives the most flexibility for reaching farms, riversides and the lake.
Where to Stay
Accommodation options in Zeta itself are limited; Golubovci offers a small number of guesthouses and local stays. Many visitors choose hotels and apartments in nearby Podgorica for wider choice, or rural guesthouses and wine estates around the Zeta Plain and Lake Skadar.
Food & Drink
Zeta is known for fresh local produce, homemade cheese, cured meats, seasonal vegetables, grapes and regional wine. Restaurants and family-run konobas serve Montenegrin dishes, while markets in Golubovci and nearby towns offer fruit, vegetables, rakija and honey.
