About Al Ahmadi
Al Ahmadi is an oil company town in southern Kuwait, founded in 1946 by the Kuwait Oil Company after the discovery of oil. It serves as the capital of Ahmadi Governorate and remains the centre of Kuwait's petroleum industry, hosting the headquarters of the Kuwait Oil Company and Kuwait National Petroleum Company along with the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery.
The town was planned as a garden city for oil workers, with British-influenced architecture, tree-lined streets and numbered roads. Its heritage includes the original company-town layout, public parks, Ahmadi Zoo and the Kuwait Little Theatre, which reflect its mid-20th-century origins as a planned industrial community.
Nearby residential and commercial areas such as Fahaheel, Mangaf, Abu Halifa and Riqqah extend south along the coast. Al Kout Mall in Fahaheel is a major waterfront retail and leisure destination, while beaches, seaside promenades and parks provide recreation for residents and visitors.
As the heart of Kuwait's oil sector, Al Ahmadi is important for energy-related business travel, industrial visits and conferences. The Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil and Gas Exhibition documents the country's petroleum history, and the surrounding Burgan oil field is among the world's largest.
For both leisure and business travellers, Al Ahmadi offers a distinctive view of Kuwait's modern industrial heritage, green residential planning and southern coastal communities, all within a short drive of Kuwait City and Kuwait International Airport.
