About Yona
Yona is a coastal village on Guam's eastern side and the first southern municipality beyond the Pago River. It stretches from Pago Bay south toward Talofofo and inland along the Cross Island Road, combining rural valleys, hills and shoreline communities with a strong Chamorro identity.
Yona's history reaches back to ancient Chamorro settlements, evidenced by latte stones and burial sites in Pulantat, Ylig and Tagachang. During the final weeks of World War II, Manenggon Valley became a wartime camp for much of Guam's population, a period now remembered as a defining moment in local memory.
Today the village is divided into ten sections, including Baza Gardens, Windward Hills, Ylig, Manenggon, Pulantat, Central Yona, Tagachang and As Namo. Visitors come for Tagachang Beach Park, Ylig Bay, Pago Bay viewpoints, the Tarzan Falls trail and the LeoPalace Resort, while the carabao statue and St. Francis of Assisi Church mark local heritage.
Yona remains one of Guam's most agricultural and rural municipalities, with efforts focused on eco-tourism, farming and preserving open landscapes. Its position along Route 4 makes it a natural gateway to southern Guam and a quieter base near the island's urban centre.
For leisure and business travellers, Yona offers resort facilities, outdoor recreation and a peaceful alternative to the Tumon hotel strip, all within a short drive of Hagåtña and Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport.

Yona Travel Guide
Best Time to Visit
Guam's drier months from December through June offer the most reliable weather for beaches, hikes and scenic drives. Early October brings Yona's San Francisco de Asis fiesta, a traditional village celebration with food, music and community events.
How to Get Around
A rental car is the most practical way to reach Yona's beaches, valleys and nearby attractions, using Route 4 and Cross Island Road (Route 17). Public buses are limited, so taxis, private transfers and guided tours are common alternatives.
Where to Stay
Yona is home to the LeoPalace Resort, offering golf, pools and hillside views. Travellers can also stay in nearby Tamuning or Tumon for a wider range of hotels while using Yona as a gateway to southern Guam.
