About Andersen Air Force Base

Andersen Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation on the northern end of Guam, near the village of Yigo. It functions as a strategic Pacific airfield and a passenger gateway for military, Department of Defense and space-available travellers moving through the region.

The airfield began as North Field, built as a B-29 base in the mid-1940s during the final stage of World War II. It became North Guam Air Force Base in 1947 and was renamed Andersen Air Force Base on 7 October 1949 in honor of Brigadier General James Roy Andersen.

Passenger movements are handled by the 734th Air Mobility Squadron through the AMC Passenger Terminal, which supports flights on government-controlled aircraft rather than scheduled commercial airline services. After Typhoon Mawar damaged the previous facility, operations moved to an interim passenger terminal while the original terminal undergoes renovation.

The base sits roughly 27 km northeast of Hagåtña, the capital of Guam. Taxis, rental cars, private transfers and pre-arranged ground transportation connect the terminal to Hagåtña, Tumon and other parts of the island, which follows Chamorro Standard Time (UTC+10).
