About Yigo

Yigo is Guam's northernmost village and one of the island's largest municipalities by population, sitting on the island's limestone plateau above the northern coastal cliffs. Its character is shaped by residential neighbourhoods, military presence, and the forested hills and remote beaches that mark the northern end of Guam.

Andersen Air Force Base dominates much of Yigo's western side and brings a steady flow of military personnel, contractors and families to the area. The South Pacific Memorial Park, built on the site of the last Japanese command post during the 1944 Battle of Guam, preserves an important chapter of World War II history through its monument, chapel and quiet forested grounds.

Beyond the base, Yigo offers access to some of Guam's least crowded natural areas, including Ritidian Beach and the Guam National Wildlife Refuge, Mount Santa Rosa and the northern plateau's jungle trails. These spots are known for birdwatching, coastal views, and Chamorro cultural and archaeological sites.

The village is primarily residential and spread out, with local churches, schools, shops and roadside grills serving everyday life. For dining, shopping and hotels, many visitors base themselves in nearby Dededo, Tumon or Hagåtña and travel into Yigo by car.

Yigo's combination of World War II heritage, protected coastline, and proximity to Andersen Air Force Base makes it relevant for both leisure travellers exploring northern Guam and business or military visitors with commitments in the area.
