About Brandenburg

Brandenburg an der Havel is a riverside city in western Brandenburg, about 70 kilometres west of Berlin. Spread across islands and the banks of the Havel, it combines medieval architecture, waterways and quiet natural surroundings with a practical regional economy.

The city grew from three historic cores: the Altstadt, the Neustadt and the Dominsel, the cathedral island. Landmarks include the Romanesque and Gothic Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, the brick Gothic St. Catherine's Church, the Old Town Hall with its Roland statue and several surviving medieval city gates.

Visitors can explore the Archaeological State Museum in the former Paulikloster monastery, the Brandenburg Industrial Museum and the riverfront walks along the Havel. The Havel, Beetzsee and nearby Westhavelland Nature Park make the city a base for boating, cycling and relaxed day trips.

Historically an industrial centre for steel, engineering and vehicle manufacturing, Brandenburg an der Havel now combines manufacturing, logistics and public administration. Its compact old town, waterways and proximity to Berlin make it a practical and relaxed destination for both leisure and business travellers.
