About La Massana
La Massana is a mountain town and parish in northwestern Andorra, set at about 1,240 metres in the Pyrenees and roughly 6 km from the capital, Andorra la Vella. It is best known as the gateway to the Pal-Arinsal ski area and to the Pic de Comapedrosa, Andorra's highest peak at 2,942 metres.
The area's identity is shaped by a mix of modern resort services and older stone-built villages. The Farga Rossell iron forge tells the story of the valley's traditional iron-working, while Romanesque churches such as Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós and Sant Climent de Pal preserve a rich local heritage.
La Massana town concentrates shops, hotels, restaurants and the cable car that connects to the Pal ski sector. Nearby villages each add their own character: Pal and Arinsal are lively ski and mountain-bike bases, while Anyós, Sispony, Erts and L'Aldosa offer quieter rural stays and historic corners.
Tourism drives much of the local economy, from winter sports and mountain biking to hiking, retail and real estate. The Comapedrosa Nature Park protects high-mountain landscapes, lakes and marked trails, and the area hosts mountain-sport events, festivals and a relaxed après-ski scene.
For visitors, La Massana combines easy access to outdoor activities with proximity to the capital's shops and services. It appeals equally to leisure travellers seeking mountains in summer or winter and to small business groups looking for a practical, scenic base in Andorra.
