About the Event
Sziget Festival 2027 returns to Óbuda Island in Budapest from 10 to 14 August 2027 for the festival's 33rd edition. One of Europe's largest and longest-running multi-genre festivals, Sziget combines live music with theatre, circus, art and community programming across a 76-hectare island in the Danube.
The event began in 1993 as Diáksziget, or Student Island, a modest local gathering, and has grown into a major international festival while keeping the island as its permanent home. The Hungarian word "sziget" means island, and the riverside site continues to shape the event's identity.
Music forms the core of the programme, spanning pop, rock, alternative, hip-hop and electronic genres. International headliners perform on the Main Stage, while club-focused electronic sets take place in venues such as the Colosseum. The 2027 lineup is revealed in phases; the previous edition featured Zara Larsson, Florence + The Machine, Lewis Capaldi, Skrillex, Twenty One Pilots, Bring Me The Horizon and Jorja Smith, among others.
Beyond concerts, Sziget presents circus, theatre, dance, art installations and workshops throughout the site. The official programme has described more than 1,000 shows across around 50 stages, giving the island the feel of a temporary city district with its own streets, stages and gathering spaces.
The festival attracts a young, international audience. The 2026 edition drew visitors from around 110 countries, with about half coming from Hungary and Dutch festivalgoers forming the largest international group. Organisers have reported an overall site capacity of about 85,000.
Sziget 2027 runs for five days, with music and performances continuing into the early morning. Visitors can camp on the island with qualifying multi-day passes or stay in central Budapest and travel to the site on the H5 suburban railway to Filatorigát station, a short walk from the entrance.
