About Saint Martin

Saint-Martin is the French overseas collectivity covering the northern part of the island of Saint Martin in the northeastern Caribbean. It combines a relaxed tropical setting with French language, culture and cuisine, offering a distinctive mix of beach life, dining and island atmosphere for leisure travelers.

The capital, Marigot, is centered on a lively waterfront and marina, with a covered market, duty-free shops and the hilltop ruins of Fort Louis overlooking the town. Grand Case is widely known as the gastronomic heart of the island, while Orient Bay and Anse Marcel are popular for their beaches, water sports and resorts.

Beyond its coastline, Saint-Martin features long sandy beaches, sheltered lagoons, salt ponds and low green hills such as Pic Paradis. Its French-Caribbean character is reflected in Creole influences, local seafood and French baking, while the island's shared border with Dutch Sint Maarten gives visitors easy access to two cultures on one small island.

Tourism is the main driver of the economy, supported by hotels, villas, restaurants, marinas and seasonal visitors from Europe and North America. Since 2007, the northern part of the island has been a separate French overseas collectivity, administratively distinct from Guadeloupe.

Saint-Martin is connected by the small Grand Case–Espérance Airport on the French side, with many travelers also arriving through Princess Juliana International Airport on the neighboring Dutch side. Local roads, taxis, private transfers and rental cars make it straightforward to move between the airport, Marigot, beaches, hotels, business areas and visitor attractions.
