About Zamperini Field
Zamperini Field is the city-owned public airport serving Torrance, California, in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County. Originally completed by the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1943 as the Lomita Flight Strip, it was later named in honor of Louis Zamperini, a Torrance athlete and World War II veteran.
Located about three miles southwest of downtown Torrance, the airport is primarily a general aviation facility with two asphalt runways, a helipad, and a control tower. It supports private, charter, flight training, and business aviation traffic rather than scheduled airline service.
