Zachar Bay Seaplane Base is a small public-use seaplane base serving Zachar Bay on the western side of Kodiak Island, Alaska. It provides an essential air link between this remote coastal area, nearby wilderness lodges, and the community of Kodiak.
The base has no conventional terminal building and operates from a sheltered water landing area in Zachar Bay, near Larsen Bay. Small floatplanes, including de Havilland Beavers and Cessna floatplanes, connect the bay with Kodiak and other points around Kodiak Island; scheduled service to Kodiak has been supported by the U.S. Essential Air Service program.
Zachar Bay is accessible only by air or boat, and the floatplane flight to Kodiak typically takes around 40 minutes, covering roughly 84 km (52 mi). Travelers usually begin or end their journey in Kodiak and transfer at the Trident Basin seaplane harbor before continuing to the bay.
