Xai-Xai Chongoene Airport is a regional airport serving Xai-Xai, the capital of Gaza Province in southern Mozambique. Opened in November 2021, it was developed to improve air connections for the province and support tourism, commerce and local development.
The airport, officially named Filipe Jacinto Nyusi Airport, is located in the Nhacutse area of Chongoene district, roughly 35 km from central Xai-Xai. It has a single 1,800-metre concrete runway capable of handling aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320, together with a passenger terminal, a cargo terminal and supporting buildings.
It provides scheduled regional connections and serves charter traffic, with onward travel to Xai-Xai and coastal destinations such as Praia do Bilene available by road. Passenger facilities include a check-in area, domestic and international departure lounges, shops, restaurants and basic amenities.
As a compact, recently built airport, it functions as a convenient entry point for visitors travelling to Gaza Province and the surrounding coastal areas, with road links connecting the airport to the city and nearby towns.
