Wiseman Airport (WSM)

Wiseman Airport is a small public-use airport serving the community of Wiseman in the Brooks Range region of northern Alaska. Opened in 1949, it is publicly owned by the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities Northern Region and primarily supports general aviation, including seasonal ski-plane operations in winter.

The airport sits about 1 mile (1.6 km) south-southwest of Wiseman along the Dalton Highway corridor. It has a single 2,000-foot turf and dirt runway and no control tower, serving private pilots, charter flights, and backcountry access rather than scheduled commercial service. The nearest airport with instrument procedures is Coldfoot Airport, roughly 9 nautical miles to the south.

There is no terminal building or scheduled ground transfer network at the airport. Travelers typically continue by private vehicle or prearranged charter, with the Dalton Highway providing road access to Coldfoot and points north and south.

Despite its limited facilities, Wiseman Airport plays a practical role for visitors heading to Gates of the Arctic National Park, the Brooks Range, and nearby communities such as Coldfoot and Bettles, offering a remote but useful entry point for general aviation in northern Alaska.
