About William P. Hobby Airport
William P. Hobby Airport is one of two major commercial airports serving Houston, handling a large share of the city's domestic air traffic as well as Southwest Airlines international flights to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The airport opened in 1927 as W.T. Carter Field, was acquired by the City of Houston in 1937 and was renamed in 1967 in honor of former Texas governor William P. Hobby.
Located about 7 miles (11 km) southeast of downtown Houston, Hobby is the closer of the city's two main airports to the city centre and provides convenient access for travelers heading into Houston or south toward Galveston and the Texas Gulf Coast. Southwest Airlines is the dominant carrier, with additional service from American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines and Allegiant Air.
The airport operates from a single terminal building with two connected concourses: the Central Concourse for domestic flights and the West Concourse for international arrivals and departures. This compact layout keeps check-in, security, gates and baggage claim within short walking distances.
Hobby Airport connects to the Houston area by METRO bus, taxis, ride-share services, rental cars and private transfers, and offers shops, dining, lounges and passenger amenities. It serves as a practical gateway for domestic travelers and for visitors arriving in the Houston region.
