Whiteman Airport is a county-owned general aviation airport serving Pacoima, the San Fernando Valley and the greater Los Angeles area. Opened in 1946 and operated by Los Angeles County since 1970, it is the busiest of the county's five general aviation airports and supports flight training, charter operations, aerial filming and private aviation.
The airport operates a 4,120-foot asphalt runway and a contract air traffic control tower, accommodating fixed-wing and rotor-wing aircraft from small trainers to turboprops and business jets. A modern terminal building houses a flight school and pilot supply shop, alongside aviation-related businesses, hangars and tie-down areas.
Located in Pacoima with access to the I-5, 210 and 118 Freeways, Whiteman Airport is roughly 15 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
