About Westerly State Airport
Westerly State Airport is a public general aviation airport serving Westerly and the South County region of southwestern Rhode Island. The airfield began as a grass strip in the 1920s and later became one of the first state-owned airports in the country, with the runways paved after use by the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Located about 3 km (2 miles) southeast of downtown Westerly, the airport serves private pilots, corporate aviation, and scheduled commuter flights to Block Island through New England Airlines. It has two asphalt runways and is operated by the Rhode Island Airport Corporation.
Because no scheduled public transport serves the airport, travelers typically reach downtown Westerly, Watch Hill, Misquamicut, and nearby areas by private transfer, taxi, chauffeur service, or rental car.
With a passenger lobby, fixed-base operator facilities, fueling, maintenance, and aircraft parking, Westerly State Airport functions as a convenient general aviation gateway for visitors exploring Rhode Island's southern coast and Block Island.
