About Waycross–Ware County Airport
Waycross–Ware County Airport is a public general aviation airport serving Waycross and Ware County in southeast Georgia. Located about three miles northwest of central Waycross, it functions primarily as a gateway for private, corporate, and general aviation traffic in the region.
The airport traces its origins to 1930, when Ware County and the City of Waycross established an airfield northwest of the city. It later served as Waycross Army Airfield, a World War II military pilot training base, and today retains historical displays connected to that wartime role.
The facility covers about 1,051 acres and has three asphalt runways: Runway 01/19, Runway 05/23, and Runway 13/31. Passenger services are centered on a general aviation terminal and FBO rather than separate airline terminals, and the airport has no scheduled commercial airline service.
Ground access is by road from Waycross, with the city centre about three miles away, and the airport provides fuel, tiedown and hangar parking, a pilot lounge, and other general aviation facilities. Its location also makes it a practical access point for travelers visiting the Okefenokee Swamp area and nearby communities.
