About Watsonville Municipal Airport
Watsonville Municipal Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Watsonville, Santa Cruz County, and the wider Monterey Bay region. Owned and operated by the City of Watsonville, it is the only public-use airport in Santa Cruz County and serves as a regional gateway for private, business, flight training, and recreational aviation.
The airport's history dates to 1931, and during World War II it was commissioned as Naval Auxiliary Air Station Watsonville before returning to city control after the war. Scheduled airline service began in 1946 and continued until 1956, and the current terminal building was completed in 1974.
Located about three miles northwest of downtown Watsonville and roughly 16 miles southeast of Santa Cruz, the airport is convenient to Highway 1 and the Monterey Bay area. It operates two asphalt runways, a terminal building with a lobby, restaurant, café and administrative offices, along with hangars, tie-downs, fueling services, flight training, and aircraft maintenance.
With no scheduled commercial passenger service, WVI focuses on general aviation activity while supporting emergency services, agricultural operations, and community events.
