Wamena Airport is the main domestic airport serving Wamena, the capital of Jayawijaya Regency in Highland Papua, Indonesia. It provides essential air links between the Baliem Valley highlands and other parts of Papua and Indonesia, making it a key gateway for travellers visiting the region.
Located about 3 km from central Wamena, the airport has a single passenger terminal with an area of around 4,000 m². Designed with local architectural influences inspired by the traditional honai house, the modern terminal replaced a much older and smaller facility and can handle up to 228 passengers per hour, with five check-in counters, an air-conditioned boarding lounge and restrooms.
The airport has been developed in stages, including runway extensions that allow it to accommodate narrow-body aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 families. These improvements support domestic routes connecting Wamena with regional centres and other destinations across Indonesia.
