About Arung Palakka Airport
Arung Palakka Airport serves Watampone, the capital of Bone Regency, and the surrounding areas of South Sulawesi. The airport is located in Mappalo Ulaweng village, Awangpone district, about 10 km from the centre of Watampone, making it the main air gateway for the regency.
Physical construction of the airport began in 2007 and was completed in 2008. It later handled pioneer flights connecting Bone with other parts of Sulawesi between 2015 and 2017, before commercial services were suspended. The airport resumed operations on 1 December 2022, reopening regional connections for Bone.
The airport has a single passenger terminal and a runway of about 1,200 metres, suitable for smaller regional aircraft. Services have focused on short domestic routes, including flights to Makassar and previously announced connections to Kendari and Balikpapan, supporting travel across Sulawesi and beyond.
Road access links the airport to Watampone and nearby towns, with typical travel to the city centre taking around 15 to 20 minutes by car. Travelers can continue by taxi, private transfer, rental car or pre-arranged ground transportation.
